They shall grow not old, as we that are left to grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them.

Veneers - are a nice way to improve your smile by colour, position and shape for your teeth. Veneers are wafer-thin laminates or shells of tooth coloured material (which can be made out of a variety of materials - porcelain, ceramic or a resin bonding material). They are bonded to the front surface of your natural tooth structure to improve their cosmetic appearence.

H A P P Y M O N D A Y !

Last week one of our amazing Dentists was asked; how damaging is citrus fruits or citrus juices to my teeth...?

So here's for 411 💁 Most people love eating fruits: They're sweet, juicy and have a high vitamin C content – in fruits like oranges, strawberries and grapefruits – make them particularly good choices for both your dental health and overall health. Some fruits, however, have high acid contents and can also be damaging to the enamel of your teeth causing dental erosion. But you can still reap the health benefits of acidic fruits if you know which fruits pose the greatest risk or how to keep your teeth safe while drinking or eating them.

OUR SOLUTION:
✅ Use a straw when drinking fruit juices. This keeps it from coming in direct contact with your teeth.
✅ Do not take too long consuming them
✅ Rinse with water after eating fruit to dilute the acids in your mouth, and wait at least 30 minutes before brushing to give your enamel time to resettle.
✅ Keep your enamel strong by brushing with fluoridated toothpaste
✅ Never suck on lemons, limes or any highly acidic fruit. Putting these fruits against your teeth for any period of time is a sure way to soften the enamel on your teeth.

If you’re looking for more “likes” on Instagram, take a selfie! 📸

In a study of 1.1 million randomly selected Instagram photos, researches from the United States, found that photos with faces were 38% more likely to get likes and 32% more likely to get comments.
And better yet, another study found that women who had smiled the most in their college year book photos had happier lives, happier marriages, and fewer personal setbacks in the following 30 years. The same researches looked at basketball cards and found a clear association between how big a smile someone made on a basketball card photo and how long they would live. The people who smiled the most turned out to live 7 years longer than those who didn’t.

If more likes and a longer life isn’t enough to convince you to let us perfect your smile, we don’t know what is! 😁

Do you agree with these studies? How can we help with your smile to live longer? Let us know what you think?

Why are we NOT a Preferred Provider?

At Island Dental, we welcome all health insurance funds and do not limit our practice to only servicing patients from one or two preferred health insurance funds like many dental practices. Here at Island Dental we have always strongly believed that joining a preferred provider health insurer is not in the best interest of our patients.

You as our patient should have the freedom to choose a practice, Dentist and Hygienist that best suits you and your individual dental needs and not what your health insurer needs!

These Black Rice Bowls are piled high with Teriyaki-infused black rice, crispy tofu, a crunchy Asian slaw and some 🥦 for good measure 🙌🏼. Great healthy lunch prep, but just as satisfying for a tasty dinner.

When it comes to carbs, fibre, protein and fat, black rice is healthier than brown rice! Reason being that black rice has less carbs and more fibre and protein.

Tofu is an excellent source of amino acids, iron, calcium and other micro-nutrients, tofu is a versatile ingredient with many health benefits 👌.

When it comes to great tasting nutrition, broccoli is an all-star food with many health benefits - amazing source of folate (folic acid), potassium, fibre and Vitamin C and we all know this is great for not only our diagestive system but builds collagen - the building block responsible for repairing our bones, teeth and gums 🦷.
