How to Choose the Right Dentist for You and Your Family

10/01/2020

Looking for your forever dentist?

That’s what you want, right? A professional that you can trust to be caring, and gentle.

Someone who can grow with you and your family. Someone who can be your trusted health advisor for decades.

But the choice is overwhelming.

There are hundreds of dentists throughout Adelaide and the surrounding suburbs. So the choice can seem a bit daunting.

How do you know that you are choosing the right dentist to meet your needs? Here are a few things to consider to help you narrow down your choices and find the best fit.

Services

Dentists vary in the services that they provide.

Some only offer general dental services, like cleaning, fluoride treatments, fillings and whitening. Others offer more extensive services, including oral surgery, dental implantsroot canal treatment, and more.

Some offer paediatric dentistry, while others do not.

When finding out about the services offered, think about the needs of your family both now and into the future. If you and your partner don’t have any kids yet but plan to in the future, it will be nice to have a dentist that can accommodate the needs of your growing family.

Appointments

Some dental offices are busier than others, and some even over-schedule themselves to fit in as many patients each day as possible.

A practice with few patients could be a sign that the quality of care is not high. On the other hand, when an office is extremely busy you may have difficulty getting an appointment, particularly in an emergency or may not be able to get appointments at your preferred dates and times.

At Island Dental we prefer to take the time that each patient needs, rather than rush people through. We are open 6 days a week and make it a priority to see patients who have a genuine emergency.

Trust

When you visit a dentist or call for more information, are you satisfied with the response? Did they take the time to answer your questions, or did you feel as though they were rushing you?

Choosing a dentist is a major decision. You want to make sure you are 100-percent comfortable with your choice.

As many as three out of four people may view a dental visit with anything from mild trepidation to severe panic. So be sure you find someone who’s experienced in alleviating dental fear.

If you have any nagging doubts, you should probably find a different dental office, one that gives you confidence that you have made the right choice.
