CEREC

Cerec is a computer assisted design and ceramic milling system that allows the dentist to make all ceramic inlays, onlays, veneers and crowns in one visit.

These porcelain restorations are long lasting, they are aesthetically beautiful and they are created to fit the tooth with extraordinary precision.

It is one if the greatest advancements in modern dentistry.

Conventional methods of tooth restoration require multiple visits by the patient, extensive drilling, rubbery material in the mouth, temporary restoration and a two week wait for the laboratory to fabricate the restoration. At the second visit the area needs to be numbed again and the restoration fitted.

With Cerec, there’s no need for impressions taken with gooey material, you don’t have to wear a temporary, the area has to be numbed once and because the Cerec process only requires the removal of contaminated material you conserve a greater portion of tooth.

BENEFITS

  1. MORE NATURAL
The ceramic material is similar to natural tooth enamel in colour, hardness and expansion. It’s a natural biocompatible material. There is no metal and there is no mercury.

  2. STRONGER
The restored tooth is actually stronger because of the bonding technique and the porcelain’s own inherent strength.

  3. SIMPLER
A Cerec saves time, saves visits and saves on injections. It’s more convenient.

  4. MORE COMFORTABLE
The computer takes a visual impression so there is no need for a rubbery impression.

  5. CONSERVATIVE
A Cerec allows more original natural tooth structure to be saved.

  6. KINDER
The Cerec materials wear rate is similar to enamel so it’s kinder on the restored tooth and the opposing tooth. This is especially important in patients with heavy bites.

  7. LONGEVITY
Long term studies indicate that Cerec restorations are as durable as gold and last longer than laboratory made porcelaine restorations.

  8. AESTHETIC
Cerec is tooth coloured and because of its pronounced chameleon effect blends in beautifully with natural tooth structure.

  9. RADIOLUCENT
X-rays penetrate Cerec porcelain so the dentist can see problems if they develop at a later date. It is difficult to see what is happening under traditional metal or porcelain and metal crowns with dental x-rays.

THE PROCESS

STEP 1. PREPARATION
  • The damaged tooth is prepared conservatively for the Cerec restoration.
STEP 2. OPTICAL IMPRESSION
  • An impression is taken by simply photographing the tooth with a special computer camera to an accuracy of 25 microns. The computer calculates the shape in three dimensions.
STEP 3. DESIGN
  • The restoration is designed on the computer screen while you watch.
STEP 4. MILLING
  • Once the design is done the computer instructs the Milling portion of the Cerec machine to automatically mill a ceramic block to form a porcelain restoration to fit the tooth to an accuracy of 50 microns. The milling process takes between 7-15 minutes.
STEP 5. BONDING
  • The ceramic restoration is bonded to the tooth, adjusted and polished to be smooth as the rest of the teeth in your mouth.
The dentist has complete control over time, fit, colour and the whole procedure is completed in one visit in as little as an hour.

The precise fit, the wonderful appearance and the biocompatibility of the Cerec porcelain used make the Cerec 3 restorations a state of the art creation in dentistry.

CEREC 3D

We have upgraded the Cerec 3 software to the latest three dimensional (3D) software that allows the dentist to design and view the final porcelain restoration in 3D prior to the milling.

The end result is increased precision in all of the phases of the design, construction and milling of the porcelain restoration producing a superior product for the patient.
