DENTAL INSURANCE

Our fees and treatments recommendations are exactly the same whether you have dental insurance or not. We want to provide the best possible dental care. If you have insurance we will co-operate in every reasonable and legal way to ensure you receive the maximum rebate that you are entitled to. However you must understand that your account is your own personal responsibility.

Your dental insurance policy is a contract between you, the policy holder and the insurance company. There are so many different types of dental cover with varying benefits, eligibility periods and restrictions that is impossible for us to know them all.

We recommend that all patients become familiar with the type of coverage that their insurer provides for them.

We will provide the relevant item numbers for the proposed treatment so that patients can check with their insurers on their eligibility and rebate levels.

If at anytime you have questions or concerns regarding treatment, fees or services please bring these questions to our attention so that we can help you.

Preferred Provider... Prefer Not!

In recent years health funds have begun to introduce “preferred provider” schemes in Australia. These schemes are essentially a contract between the dentist and the health fund where the dentist agrees to provide certain services for a fixed fee. In return the health fund hopes to make the dentist busier by sending more patients to the dentist.

The only requirement to become a “preferred provider dentist” is that the dentist agrees to be bound by the health funds rules and regulations and fee structure. They are only “preferred” because they are contracted...no other reason. There is no requirement to deliver a certain standard of care or quality of treatment.

Our experience of preferred provider schemes overseas and what has happened to medicine and hospitals in Australia has taught us that they tend to lead to:

  • limited patient choices and services
  • use of cheaper and inferior materials
  • quality drops
  • service deterioration
  • shortcuts occur
  • standards of care suffers
  • health funds controlling what treatments are alowed, how many and how often
  • patients lose their freedom to choose

In short, decisions about your dental care are driven by insurers desires to maintain profits and market share.

We believe you deserve better. We will not enter into any contract which compromises our independence in making decisions regarding the quality of your dental care.

This decision has not been made lightly but out of deep concern for the long term well being and freedom of choice for our patients.

We believe that our loyalty should be to you our patient, not to a health fund.

We provide dental services that are appropriate to our patients needs for which we charge a fair fee that represents excellent value for your dental dollar.
